CREATION OF THE FIRST
EUROPEAN FEDERATION
OF FILM AND AUDIOVISUAL MEDIA
MUSIC COMPOSERS
The statutes of the FFACE (Federation of Film and Audiovisual Composers of Europe) were signed on the 26th of January at the hotel Majestic-Barrière in Cannes during the MIDEM
FFACE intends to regroup existing associations of film and audiovisual media music composers throughout Europe.
The Federation will work to assert and maintain the specificity of the profession, reinforce the dialogue with producers, editors and broadcasters, enrich respective professional cultures, allow for a greater hearing by the European authorities and facilitate exchanges and mobility at the time of international co-productions.
The founder members are:
Germany (CC Composers)
Spain (Musimagen)
Denmark (DPA)
Finland (ELVIS)
France (UCMF)
Switzerland (UFMC)
United Kingdom
Sweden.
France has been chosen by he Administration Council to hold the first presidency and, in accordance with statutes, the positions of President, General Secretary and Treasurer.
The Executive Board has been unanimously elected for 2 years and is as follows:
President : Bernard Grimaldi (UCMF) France.
General Secretary : Dominique Verdan (UCMF) France.
Treasurer : Pierre André Athané (UCMF) France.
Vice presidents : Germany, (name to be decided) (CC Composers) – Spain, Bernardo Fuster (Musimagen) – Switzerland, Louis Crelier (UFMC).
During its first meeting, the Board of Directors of FFACE defined the guidelines that will govern its actions :
- To defend the principles of the collective administration of authors rights by supporting and monitoring the activities of our collecting societies in the context of the intellectual property laws.
- To protect and develop the rich diversity of our cultures.
- To consolidate and improve the status of film music composer and to increase the awareness of and respect for composers and their creations both in the industries they serve and society in general.
- To establish a platform for communication and exchange between European composers.
A first meeting will be held at the Cannes International Film Festival next May.
FFACE will be able to welcome its members at the International Film Music Pavilion which was created last year by the UCMF (Union of Composers of Music for Films)
