“The British Academy of Composers and Songwriters...
representing over three thousand British composers, is pleased by
the creation of a European group of film and audiovisual music
composers. In the present climate, where musical writing is constantly
under pressure from consumers, it is vital that composers organise
themselves and aim for a greater understanding of their profession.
We hope that this group will lead to joint action throughout Europe
and in particular where composers find themselves obliged to accept
unfair contracts by broadcasters and T.V producers. We think that this
new group will help to bring certain practices to the attention of the
relevant authorities, such as the European Commission for Competition
and various political personalities of the member countries of the
Federation. We wish equally, that this Federation is the first step towards
the constitution of a wider European network that will represent
composers and lyricists of all types of music and that it will allow them
to be heard with one and the same voice.
